  6. Approval of Minutes: The meeting was called to order at 4:10 PM. Mool Mantar was recited to open the meeting. After review of the minutes of the last meeting a motion to approve was made by Jasdeep Singh, a second by Gurdev Singh, and the minutes were approved by all.
  7. Selma Nagar Keertan - Raghbir Singh questioned why comments were put into the last meeting’s minutes that there was poor communication. There was a breif discussion on what went wrong with the communication. It was decided to discuss it further at the next meeting when Amrik Singh is present.
  8. Guru Nanak Prakash Ustav 2010 - after some discussion about the venue of this event Raghbir Singh made a motion that it should be held at the Sikh Association of the Pacific Coast, Selma Gurdwara. Hardev Singh made a second to the motion and it was approved unanimously. There was a brief discussion on what the topic should be but there were no suggestions. The sub-committee should meet before the next meeting and formulate some suggestions. Hardev Singh suggested that some of the content of last year’s speeches on the topic of 1984, specifically the ones given by the youth, could be interpreted as hateful or inflammatory by the non-Sikhs who were present at the event. He suggested that the speeches should be screened for such language in the future.
  9. Sikhism in Califonria State Curriculum - SB 1278 has passed the appropriations committee and will next go to the Senate floor where it is expected to pass.
  10. Dear Takuya book for FUSD libraries - Davinder K. Sidhu, the elementary school prinicpal, has approached the Fresno Unified School District Curriculum Committee and got their approval to place this book in all the elementary school libraries if they are donated to the schools. Dr. Rajpal has said he will personally donate the books from the ones he has. It was suggested that the Punjabi Language Committee should meet with the school board and set up an occasion to present the books to the school district.
  11. Khanda underwear sold on internet - Samarbir Singh of Guru Khalgidhar Gurdwara informed us of a website that is selling underwear imprinted with the Khanda. After some discussion it was decided that SCCC should find out who to contact at the website and write a letter stating that such items should never be sold. It was suggested that the matter also be referred to the Sikh Coalition and SALDEF for possible legal action.
  12. Multifaith Exchange – S. Kehar Singh reported the meeting on Sikhism was at Gurdwara Sahib Nanak Sar on May 16th. Dr. Paul S.Virk, Amrik Singh, and Manvinder Singh were the speakers. SCCC thanks those who attended and helped in the group discussions. Special thanks to Gurdev Singh for making all the arrangements. Lachhman Singh suggested that a letter of thanks be written to Gurdwara Sahib Nanak Sar since they have hosted this event for several years. He will draft a letter from the SCCC. The next meeting is the Steering Committee meeting on June 6th.
  13. Interfaith Alliance - Mohinder Singh sent word that there will not be a July 4th picnic this year since it falls on a Snday.
  14. Crematorium - Boota Singh reported that this project will come before the Fresno County Planning Commission on June 10th. He requests that SCCC members be present to answer questions from the commission. Details will be E-mailed to members.
  15. Miscellaneous - - Hardev Singh suggested that SCCC should donate money to the Indian Independence Day Celebration to be considered a full participant. This matter will be discussed further at the next meeting.
  16. Adjourn: Raghbir Singh made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Jasdeep Singh made a second to it. The meeting was adjourned at 5:20 PM. The next meeting will be at Singh Sabha Gurdwara on Dakota in Fresno, on Jun. 26th at 4:00 PM.
